“I first attended Imam Sykes’ class in late 2011 as a curious Christian who had done some independent study of Islam for 1-2 years prior. In my independent study I was not only intrigued, but drawn into learning more and more and it was time for me to seek guidance in my learning. On my first day of attending class I was greeted so warmly upon my arrival and was introduced to and welcomed by wonderfully genuine people. Alhamdulillah, they have since become my family. Together we are exploring our faith, Islam, whether we are “newcomers” (converts, reverts), born Muslims, curious individuals, or somewhere in between. The atmosphere is one of acceptance of wherever we are in our spiritual journey. Here, we thrive in a non-threatening environment where we can safely ask any question that comes to mind…and get an answer. Imam Sykes is very aware of our backgrounds and teaches with great sensitivity. It is here that we receive the spiritual guidance of the Quran and Sunnah and the support and encouragement from our spiritual leader and fellow Muslims. I always look forward to attending class each week and if I should happen to miss a class, there is something “missing” all week. It is truly a class that instills a want to return and learn more.”
